How to use a sound recorder

Draft 1

In my first draft I had just taken the raw footage and collated it together, and roughly inserted the close up images without any effects. There is no audio at all in this draft meaning that no music or voice over was added yet.

Draft 2

In my second draft I have the same video as before but I have added some audio, I am still yet to add a voice over but I have music in the background, the images have a dissolve effect on them and I have added a PNG image of a micro SD card to help illustrate what I am talking about.

Final Draft

In my final draft I have I have the same video concept as the 2nd Draft but I have added a very basic introduction screen and a short outro screen. The music is slowly brought in at the start and slowly taken out at the end, and I have added a voice over. The visual aspect of the video fades in and out at the end of the video to allow it to look more smooth.

Evaluation

What have I done?/How did I get the final product?

In this project I have worked my way towards my final "how to" video. In order to do this I have had to do some research and pre production. Within my research section I have looked into the uses of different camera angles, different audio devices and locations, lighting, setting up a tripod and camera, regulatory and professional bodies with some small animation and sound mixing practicals. All of these tasks have lead me up towards my own how to, I had chose to do a how to video on either a sound recording, setting up a camera and tripod, camera angles or 3 point lighting, I chose to do my video on a sound recorder. I had a look at some other "how to" videos on youtube just have some idea of what I should and shouldn't add to my own. In the 3 videos I have seen that they have added background music and additional images, so I have included these in my own.

How challenging did I find putting this project together?/Was it easy?/If I was to do it again, how could I improve?

I found this project to be a good level of difficulty for myself as it was a whole new concept for me as i've never made a "how to" video. I think with my knowledge of media the main part of the project was easy such as the pre production and production due to the fact I am familiar with this. Although I found the ideas part of this more difficult but this is because I find it harder to come up with ideas. Overall I think that I could have done this project much better if I had left myself more time for production and post production. I could have made my video so much better and know that if I was to do this again I would make sure I follow my production schedule to ensure I have the correct amount of time for me to finish my work at the high standard that I know I can achieve. I would also have recorded with multiple angles to give the video more depth and allowed myself to show more of the recorder.

What did I use?

To actually create my "how to" video I used a H1n Handy Recorder I used this as it was readily at hand due to Michael allowing me to borrow it for my recording. To actually record my video I used a Canon 90D, I used this because it was available at college and I have experience with Canon cameras so this made it easier for me to use. To record my voice I used my iPhone with some headphones plugged in which I then went into a sound treated room in college and quickly recorded my voice over. I then used the same Canon 90D to take the pictures of the recorder. In both the images and video I used the Ulanzi RGB LED light to give me well lit scenes. Now that I had all of my content for the video all I needed to do was throw it all in Adobe's Premier Pro, in there I cut all the video up and arranged it into the right order, overlayed the images, lined up my voice over to match the hand movements, inserted my background music and added a quick intro and outro for the video so that it flows better. Once I was happy with my outcome I exported the file and uploaded it to Youtube where I then linked it into my blog and wrote a sentence about what I did in that video.
